nawadih, nalanda: festival of lights, diwali, brought tragedy of the worst kind to two households of the nawadih village in nalanda district as a group of criminals led by neighbour kishori yadav shot dead six members of the two families on wednesday night. one woman, laungi devi (60), sustained injuries in the attack and has been admitted to the biharsharif sadar hospital.
both the killers and the victims belong to the yadav caste. the deceased included bachchu (45) and his wife shanti devi (37) and ram sagar yadav (35), his wife sunaina devi (32), ram sagar's brother ram nath yadav (35) and anita devi (15). incidentally, anita was the daughter of ramprit yadav who was murdered a few days ago. the survivors in the two families include bachchu's daughters, kanchan kumari (8), bholi (5) and buddhi (3), who were seen wailing inconsolably when this correspondent visited the village on thursday morning. kanchan said kishori and his men barged into her house on diwali night. they first killed her father, she said. old enmity is said to be the reason behind the crime. kishori's son dani yadav was reportedly killed by bachchu and others about three years ago. kishori is said to have executed the six killings to avenge the murder of his son. he worshipped gods and goddesses on the diwali night and also offered flowers to the picture of his late son before he went on the killing spree, one villager said. nalanda dm chanchal kumar and sp gupteshwar pandey were camping in the village. additional director general of police, patna zone, ashish ranjan sinha has also arrived to assess the situation. pandey said ten persons, including kishori, have been named as accused in the case. kishori is absconding. he had removed all the belongings from his house prior to the crime, the sp added. the yadav-dominated village, 60 km from biharsharif, has witnessed a series of crimes in the recent past. twelve persons were killed in the village in recent times, the sp admitted.
